Born Lisa Barbosa, she is a second generation wrestler. Her father, Anderson Royce Barbosa, is one of the world's pioneers in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and grappling innovators of the catch as can style of wrestling. Born in British Columbia, Canada when her father migrated there to open up one of the world's earliest jiu-jitsu centers outside of their native Brazil. Upon realizing that jiu-jitsu was not in demand her father decided to demonstrate it's style and effectiveness in professional wrestling where her father would develop a blood feud with Cary Stevens, her future father in law.
Lisa has been around the wrestling business her entire life and originally had no aspirations to get into the business as it had taken a toll on her father and her brothers. She despised the Stevens family for injuring her father and brothers, but had taken a liking to Scott Stevens. He was four years her elder but they developed a Romeo and Juliet type of relationship that eventually got her expelled from her family. Started professionally at the age of eighteen and after graduating high school she began to work the independent scene with her husband, but wasn’t getting much work because of his last name and people blacklisting him around the South do to promoters’ bad blood with his father. Fearing that his career was done before it started they decided to enroll in college together and she took up work as a jiu-jitsu instructor.
After her husband graduated college, he was offered a minor league contract by Houston Astros affiliate, Corpus Christi Hooks. His first year with the Hooks he tore a ligament in his knee, and his baseball career was done. Once he recovered from his knee injury they decided to give wrestling another try full time, and they decided to travel oversees where their last name wouldn’t affect them.
Fighting an uphill battle in a male-dominated industry, she earned international claim for her expert skill inside and outside the ring, though it didn't happen overnight.
Married into the famed Stevens family she was trained by her father in law, Cary Stevens, and husband, Scott Stevens. Lisa was considered one of the sports best kept secrets for years, winning championships and managing wrestlers to championships throughout the independent scene in the U.S. and abroad as Lisa “Fyre” Martinez. Along the way, she became a pillar of the global women’s wrestling scene, a sage veteran who inspired all who shared a locker room with her. Lisa has been a major catalyst behind the women’s wrestling movement of today with the intent to propel women’s wrestling to even greater heights. Lisa continues to instill an inexhaustible work ethic into the next generation of fierce superstars.
She is the current Missouri Valley Wrestling Women's Champion.
