Joe Hoffman: We’re heading down to the ring now folks for what is sure to be one hell of a wrestling match. Jace Parker Davidson and “The Scorpion” Scott Stevens have never quite seen eye to eye, but tonight is about a lot more than two former UnStable members hashing out their differences. Tonight, a win for Jace Parker Davidson means settling a long standing grudge, and more importantly scoring himself a shot at the HOW ICON Championship.
Benny Newell: That dickhead Stevens has no right to be giving out a shot at Sektor’s ICON belt, Joe. This is a bunch of bullshit! He’s a thief and a liar! And to boot, earlier tonight he’s backstage buying Mike Best t-shirts? FOR THIRTY FIVE DOLLARS A PIECE? Something isn’t right here. Not right at all.
Joe Hoffman: There’s no disputing that something isn’t quite right with Scott Stevens, Benny, but there’s also no disputing his status as the rightful ICON Champion. Despite a hard fought loss last week, Scott Stevens is going to try and get back on the horse and keep from having to face Jace again next week.
“(S)ain’t” by Marilyn Manson is the first to hit over the sound system, blaring over the speakers as Jace Parker Davidson makes his way out from behind the curtain. The crowd is quick to boo HOW’s self-proclaimed #Villain as he stands at the top of the ramp.
Jace doesn’t pander to the crowd one way or another, just stares down at the ring as he pantomimes a championship around his waist. The crowd boos even louder at the idea of Jace unseating the ICON Champion, but he ignores it as he makes his way down the ramp and slides up into the ring. He takes his corner, loosening up as he awaits the arrival of his opponent.
The crowd eagerly awaits the opening scream of Scott Stevens’ theme music, but after a few seconds, it doesn’t come. Instead, the lights drop in the arena and suddenly there is an explosion of voices-- almost like a chorus of angels.
HALLELUJAH!
HALLELUJAH!
HALLEEEEEEEEEELUJAAAAAAAAH!
Pyro shoots off from the entranceway, as a confused roar comes over the crowd. “Jesus Freak” by DC Talk begins to play over the speakers, and the arena is buzzing as HOW ICON Champion “The Scorpion” Scott Stevens makes his way out from behind the curtain. He’s wearing a long, flowing robe with his wrestling boots, and underneath it there is a 97Red “ICON” t-shirt.
Joe Hoffman: What the...?
Benny Newell: SEE! SOMETHING’S FUCKING WEIRD ABOUT THIS GUY!
The mannerisms are uncanny as Scott Stevens makes his way down the ramp. The way he walks, the way he gestures out to the crowd... as the HOW ICON Champion makes his way up the ring steps and ducks into the ring, it’s pretty damned clear that he is emulating Michael Lee Best.
Joel Hortega takes the ICON Championship from Scott Stevens, who seems hesitant to let it go. Hortega hands it over to the timekeeper before ringing the bell and making this match official.
DING DING DING
The match begins with little delay, as Stevens shoots in and the duo tie up with an elbow collar. Stevens twists Jace’s arm around, forcing him to a knee with a chain-wrestling combination, and the crowd pops at the early advantage.
Jace rolls out of the arm twist, getting back to his feet, but Stevens pulls him over with an arm drag and both men go down to the mat, though they quickly climb back to their feet.
Joe Hoffman: Is Scott Stevens... chain wrestling?
Benny Newell: I thought him and David Black were primarily brawlers?
Stevens grabs hold of Jace again, this time giving him a hard Irish whip into the corner. He charges in to follow up, but Jace pushes off the ropes and goes up and over his opponent, landing behind Stevens and nailing a fierce dropkick to the back of his head! Scott’s head collides with the turnbuckle and he spins back around, only to eat a quick followup superkick that drops him onto his ass in the corner.
Jace takes a few steps backward, running forward toward the ICON Champion. Stevens reacts in time, leaping to his feet and colliding with Jace mid-charge, bringing him down with a colossal spear! The crowd explodes as Stevens drops to make a cover, and Hortega makes the count.
UNO!
DOS!
KICKOUT!
Jace gets his legs up without much effort after the two, to a collective sigh of disappointment from the crowd. Stevens stands up, clearly disappointed as well, but he grabs the ropes and begins stomping his opponent instead of getting hung up on it.
Joe Hoffman: Not quite a near fall there, and Scott Stevens really seems to be fighting out of his element tonight.
Benny Newell: The weight of being a false champion is holding him down, Joe. Holding. Him. Down.
Jace rolls under the ropes, escaping to the outside to get away from the stomps. Hortega doesn’t even have time to start a count out, though, as Jace slides right back onto the ring with a low shoulder block that knocks Stevens down to a knee!
Jace grabs Stevens’ head before he can stand, spinning him around with a modified tornado DDT, practically from the ground! It’s a thrilling maneuver, but instead of covering up for the pin, Jace Parker Davidson drags the ICON Champion to the center of the ring and heads for the turnbuckle, signalling for The Awakening!
Joe Hoffman: THIS COULD BE IT!
Jace gets his footing and then takes off from the top rope with a picture perfect shooting star press! But Stevens rolls to the side, and as Jace’s head falls into position he grabs him out of the air and into a triangle choke! The crowd explodes!
Joe Hoffman: WHAT?! FIVE TIME-OUT!!!
Benny Newell: GODDAMNIT! STOP BEING MIKE BEST!
Stevens clamps down on the hold, as Jace flails wildly near the ropes, trying to grab hold. He struggles as hard as he can, and Stevens isn’t accustomed to the submission hold, giving Jace the opportunity to get his chin free and escape! There is another big “OHH!” from the crowd as Jace rolls to safety, holding his throat and trying to catch his breath.
Scott Stevens scrambles to his feet, and he puts his arms out ot the sides in a Christ-like pose. There is a stirring in the arena as he smirks, nodding his head and yelling for Jace to get up. He’s signalling for the finish! Jace stumbles up to his feet, but Stevens is already coming off the ropes... he jumps up behind Jace Parker Davidson, getting ready to land a Crucifix Driver!
Joe Hoffman: ...The Jesus Complex?
Benny Newell: OH COME ON!
Stevens tries to bring Jace down, but the leverage is wrong and Jace holds him on his shoulders, throwing him around into a different position and sliding him down the back a little bit. Jace jumps into the air and lands a technically perfect Gringo Killer, out of absolutely nowhere!
Joe Hoffman: TWISTED REALITY! THIS IS IT!
Benny Newell: That’s what you get, douchebag! THAT’S WHAT HAPPENS!
Jace covers up, and Hortega makes the count.
UNO!
DOS!
TRES!
DING DING DING
The bell rings, and a victorious Jace Parker Davidson climbs to his feet. He snatches his arm away as Hortega tries to raise it in the air, and instead he drops out of the ring and grabs the HOW ICON Championship from ringside. Finding the nearest ring camera, Jace gets into the frame and holds the belt in front of him, pointing at it and smirking into the camera. He grabs the side of it, pushing the cameraman backward as he drops the title where it is, making his way back toward the ramp and getting away from the ring.
