Trainer/Striking Coach
Born Michael Robert Lang III in the heart of Motor City, Detroit, Michigan. Michael's mother died when he was around five years old and was raised in a blue-collar household by his father who worked in construction and in the steel plants. Michael's father was hardly around as he worked multiple shifts to make ends meet and that put a strain on their relationship. Around the age of ten, Mike's father passed away from an accident at work and that left him bouncing from foster home to foster home as he had no living relatives to stay with. At the age of twelve years old he began his boxing training mainly for self-defense because he had been getting bullied at school and he needed something to release his pent up rage and fighting seemed like a natural fit.
Mike Lang fights as a southpaw (left-handed).
Mike was an all-or-nothing brawler when he first started his amateur career; however, after years of training he began to develop his boxing skills which he eventually mastered possessing the qualities of an inside and outside fighter, brawler, and swarmer. He would often advance quickly upon his opponents, driving them into the ropes in order to attack the body. Lang's best attribute is without question his near-superhuman ability to absorb a multitude of the hardest hits without falling — an attribute he often employs on purpose to wear down his opponents, sacrificing defensive strategy to land his own punches. Because of this rare talent, he can afford to keep his hands in position to strike rather than up high to block. Because he takes more punches than he throws, it is easy to overlook his incredible punching power. Lang also has an uncanny ability to sense weakness in his opponents, often capitalizing on every shift in momentum possible. He is acknowledged as having one of the most devastating body attacks in the sport, with his body blows causing internal bleeding and broken bones.
Michael was a Golden Gloves boxing champion and was the longest reigning Michigan heavyweight champion until he was banned for life from boxing for hitting his opponent while he was in the down position and it caused him to become paralyzed.
Mike tried his hand at wrestling for a little while but the burning, "Eye of the Tiger," always breathed in his heart so he retired from the sport before he could really take off to train future fighters from all walks of life the proper techniques and life lessons so that they don't have to go through the hardships he did.
